In case you haven’t heard, my first cocktail book, Cocktails, Mocktails and Garnishes from the Garden is coming out on March 16 from Yellow Pear Press! It covers all the basics of edible gardening and making your own cocktails and mocktails. It features 25 classic cocktail recipes and 25 original variations that I’ve created. While the book will take you through making some fun syrups, shrubs, and juices, there are few special liqueurs or ingredients needed – you can make every drink in the book with 14 bottles, including bitters. And I hope it inspires some of you to plant your own cocktail gardens, even if it’s just on your windowsill!
You can pre-order your copy of Cocktails, Mocktails and Garnishes from the Garden on Amazon, Bookshop, and Barnes & Noble. They’ll be shipping next week!
To celebrate the book’s upcoming release, I’m hosting a pretty amazing giveaway on Instagram, and I want to extend it to blog readers as well! My friends at Gourmet Sweet Botanicals and Cocktail Kingdom have donated incredible prizes. The winner will receive:
- A signed copy of Cocktails, Mocktails and Garnishes from the Garden
- A big box of edible flowers from Gourmet Sweet Botanicals
- A full set of bar tools from Cocktail Kingdom, including their Shaken Cocktail Set and Martini Set
To enter, leave a comment below. Tell me if you’ve ever grown your own cocktail ingredients or garnishes at home! One entry per person, please – don’t comment here if you’ve already entered on Instagram.
Here is one of the mocktail recipes from the book that I really love. You can also easily work in some gin or whiskey if you’d like to turn it into a cocktail.
Daisy Chain
2 oz. chamomile tea, cooled
1 oz. apple juice
3/4 oz. lemon juice
3/4 oz. honey syrup*
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass (or a plastic bear) filled with ice and garnish with chamomile flowers.
*For honey syrup, mix equal parts honey and warm water and stir until the honey is dissolved.
Yes! I think my favorite has been candied borage flowers – they look so sparkly!
I’ve never candied them! I need to try that for sure.
I would love to enter the contest. I can’t wait to read this book!
The only cocktail ingredient/garnish I’ve grown is mint (I think it was spearmint). Its super easy, due to it being a literal weed haha. Looking forward to reading your book and learning to expand my horizons with homegrown ingredients!
I love using fresh sage leaves from my garden in winter, and basil blossoms in summer. You have to “dehead” the blooming basil anyway, and its a great way to repurpose it.
