Mulled Fashioned with Hatozaki Finest

Mulled Fashioned Autumn Old Fashioned with Japanese Whisky

When I’m creating a cocktail, sometimes it’s the name that comes first. That’s certainly what happened with the Mulled Fashioned! I thought of it while brainstorming how to incorporate mulling spices into a cocktail, and I knew it had to be made a reality.

The star of this drink is Hatozaki Finest Whisky, a Japanese whisky that I’ve used on here once before. It’s a fantastic Japanese whisky for cocktails, and it works beautifully in this one. I infused about a cup of the whisky in a jar with cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise, dried orange peel, and dried lemon peel. At first I left it overnight, and the next day I realized that was far too long. The spices are very intense and impart their flavors to the spirit quite quickly. It turns out 1-2 hours is the sweet spot. Which is quite convenient if you’re hoping for a cocktail on the sooner side!

When finished, this aromatic Old Fashioned bursts with autumn flavors, and is a perfect way to celebrate the changing of the seasons. If you want to make one, pick up a bottle of Hatozaki Finest at Total Wine, on Drizly, on ReserveBar, or at your local liquor store!
